This was a tweet earlier, and so many questions and issues meant it was impossible to convey details in 140 letters, so onto longform we go - I will keep it tight though!
Donald Trump, up until this week he meant almost nothing to me, a man almost a parody of what a billionaire should be. Refusing to accept baldness, a plane with his name down the side, possibly the worst interior design taste ever - if you are ever in New York go to Trump Towers and try not to laugh, it is impossible. So for me, and I guess a lot of the UK, he was just a sideshow, nothing to do with us and just odd appearances on TV, with his hair.
This week changed my view of him a lot.
In reverse order, today he released this video and statement on facebook.
Apart from obviously being filmed inside incase of wind on his hair, at first glance this is a funny mad old rich man, like Monty Burns from The Simpsons, with too much time on his hands. At second glance this is a horrible, threatening video demand from a bully. The clear implication being that if Obama does not do what he says then he wants all US citizens to die from AIDS and Cancer. If he had a mask on that would be a terrorist threat, the gold door to his office would be getting kicked of its hinges by now by a SWAT team. He plays the Boris Johnson card, looking and acting a bit of a buffoon, but actually being a right bastard bully who knows exactly what he is doing, and exactly where the line is. Carefull not to cross it, but like the worst kind of politician making it clear that the rest of us should.
On its own this is annoying, funny and a little sad, but something earlier this week made this hit me a little harder, and is part of his character that should be seen more. I was pointed, by many but especially @erb66 to a film that was shown on BBC about Trumps plan and building of a golf resort in Scotland.
Now phrased like that it sounds like the worst film ever, why would you give up 90 minutes of your life to watch a film about a rich man building a playground for him and his mates. But the film "you've been trumped" is so much more than that. With obvious political corruption from the off, this is the story of a very rich man who knows he is above the law, and acts like it, continually. It is hard without detailing almost every scene of this film to express the anger and rage that people feel when watching it. All the people I know who have seen it have said they physically shook at some scenes, and were open mouthed at others. This is not the buffoon side of him, this is the side that gets what he wants. The crimes committed and sanctioned by the police and Scottish Politicians in this film are amazing, no wonder they chose not to be officially interviewed for it.
From personal abuse to physical, threats to actions this film is a must watch, the trailer is here.
It is stunning that any part of this was allowed to happen. The best / worst bits of the film are Trump talking in America, seeming to forget we have TV here in the UK, where he makes it very clear what he thinks of the locals in Scotland.
Watch it, you won't be sorry.
